How to convert data from older versions of Medisoft

One thing that I failed to mention yesterday is that on your next data conversion you will not need to install Medisoft, since we did that yesterday. So going forward, you will just have to run the mapa.exe in each different Medisoft program directory in the correct steps in order to complete the data conversion. So here are the revised steps:

Steps:
  1. Copy your practice data folder from the customer to the medidata11 folder on your computer.
  2. Using regedit, blank out the current practice path and root data path in registry for Medisoft HKCU\SOFTWARE\MEDISOFT
  3. In the Medisoft11\bin folder run mapas.exe, put c:\medidata11 in the Search for data dialog and let it add files shareddata files to medidata11 and got error about an issue with Registration
  4. Clicked ok and it will exit.
  5. Then run REGmapad.exe

You may get a message dialog about either onup.dll or eliver.dll being missing so electronic claims wouldn’t work but I just click ok

  1. In Medisoft 11, go to the  File menu and choose New Practice and then type in the name of the practice in the Practice Name and in the Path field select the data folder for the new data that you are going to convert. You should get the message “The data already exists and if you continue, this data will be opened” and  click OK.
  2. You will then get the “The number of patients exceeds demo limit. This data cannot be opened”.
  1. Click OK

  1. Click OK

  1. Click cancel in the Practice Information screen.
  1. Clicked Continue w/o Backup

  1. And it goes on and on but just let it run

  1. And let it run some more, Updating Table Defaults and let it run
  2. When it finishes, you will get the same Eligibility error as when you first started.
  3. You should then be able to open patient list and see all the patients.

  1. At that point,  you would close out of Medisoft 11.
  2. You will then browse to the Medidata11 folder, and copy the practice data folder to the c:\medidata folder.
  3. You will then browse to the Medisoft 16\bin folder and run mapa.exe where it should began the conversion. Remember, you can stop the Auto Backup from running when the conversion starts by opening Task Manager and doing an End Task on the MSbackup.exe.
  4. Once the conversion is over you should be able to see the patient list and verify everything looks ok. Make a backup of the data by going to File, then Backup in Medisoft.
  5. Once the backup is done close out of Medisoft 16.
  6. Browse to the Medisoft 19\bin folder and run mapa.exe.
  7. After the conversion is finished for version 19 and you have made a backup, go to the Medisoft 20\bin folder and run mapa.exe.
  8. After the conversion is finished for version 20 and you have made a backup, go to the Medisoft 21\bin folder and run mapa.exe.
  9. At this point you have a Medisoft version 21 dataset. You can choose to run mapa.exe in the Medisoft 27\bin folder and convert the data to version 27 or do that at a later time.
